  • Need for one integrated packet with appropriate functionality for collection, procession and reporting

Solution

  • Microsoft Dynamics NAV with Enwis (waste & recycling module)

Advantages

  • One system for the entire company
  • Improving efficiency through relevant data available for everyone
  • Substantial reduction of administrative dealings and better management reports

In 1908, Gijs Hartog started excavating ‘Het Zandgat’ in Baarn and transporting stones. Almost 100 years later, Hart Transport is a versatile collection company for contractors and construction companies in the Utrecht region. The third generation of Hartogs is currently at the helm, with fresh plans and ideas for the future, ideas that can be achieved much easier with the software platform Enwis.

“Our activities are diverse: from soil and demolition waste to the supply of sand and gravel. In addition, we want to continue to differentiate through customer focus and excellent service,” says Sandra Goezinnen-Hartog, who is, together with Claudia Hart, responsible for the Hartog Transport financial administration.

“As a result of our explosive growth between 1998 and 2003, the administration became more and more laborious, as the administrative package was not integrated with other processes such as planning. Data were manually entered into planning books and daily records and then, at the end of the day, entered in the accounting. Much knowledge was in people’s minds. It was, for instance, not always immediately clear how long a customer had had a container. And automatic invoicing was impossible.”

Effortless customisation
The search for the right software did not happen overnight. “We’d already paid our dues owing to software vendors who could not live up to their promises. Besides, we didn’t want to serve as ‘guinea pigs’ for functionality that still had to be developed. Through NMPO Consultancy we came into contact with Qurius, which offers with Enwis an attractive solution for larger as well as smaller waste companies.”

Enwis is based on the successful Microsoft Dynamics NAV ERP platform. In ERP – Enterprise Resource Planning – one integrated system supports all ‘standard’ business processes: finance, purchasing, inventory, distribution, customer management, human resources as well as management reports. As an ‘add-on’ module, Enwis supports all facets of waste processing, from weighbridge to reporting, planning and invoicing. “The result is a total solution that fully corresponds to our activities. The advantage of the fact that so many ‘colleagues’ in this industry use the same software is that you get a well-operating system which hardly requires custom development.”

Gaining of time
“By linking Enwis to invoicing, we win a lot of time. Time we can use for settling financial affairs, contacts with contractors and regulating real management tasks. By bundling all activities in one package, relevant information is readily available to all people involved and cooperation is improved.”

Claudia Hartog: “A big advantage is the better understanding of the situation of a customer. We can also plan more efficiently, because the required travel time is known, for instance. Changes like reports of receipt and issue of hazardous waste to the LMA can immediately be included. All entries and recordings are linked and purchase is also done based on order entry. Contract mutations need no longer be manually processed in the invoicing. It’s all automatic.”

Professionals
She thinks that Qurius’ focus on the waste industry is not only evident in the software. “The consultant who accompanies us worked in the waste industry himself. He helped us organise and optimise the entire automation process, a contribution we really appreciate. Now we soon can go live in one go, a so-called ‘big bang’. With others systems we would not have dared to take the chance.”

The professionalization in this industry is developing at a high speed, she concludes. “Many small businesses have much difficulty with the changing regulations. Here, at Hartog Transport, everything falls into place with Enwis and we can respond flexibly to future developments. All in all, I think that we’ve made a safe and wise investment.”
